this is old news, so it's possible that i am the last person in fandom to know about it, but...
the broccoli test
as explained by
gwyn_r:
sherrold was the one who came up with the broccoli test idea when she was living in L.A. with a friend, C. As legend, and my mind filling in blanks, would tell it, Sandy and C were at the grocery store, on opposite ends of the produce section, and Sandy was trying to tell C to pick up some broccoli without shouting across the store at her. No amount of pantomiming and mouthing of the words could get the point across to C, and Sandy apparently told her (we were all in the midst of Professionals-mania then), "Doyle would have known Bodie wanted him to pick up some broccoli with just a raise of his eyebrow!" or something like that. Hence, Bodie and Doyle would have passed the broccoli test.
i spent more time than i will ever admit poring over the both the original multifandom and also the sam/dean explorations of the theme, but i love that it can also be used in real life.
lesbian telepathy is henceforth to be known as broccoli. just fyi.
( some of my favourite examples: supernatural, house, sherlock homes, harry potter )

all my life i've had recurring dreams about being in a house (usually one of about three rotating fictional houses), and suddenly discovering a secret passage, or stairwell, or room. this kind of dream probably isn't that uncommon, and even less so for me given my fascination with architecture.
it's not the kind of thing i would ever expect to happen in real life, though- specifically because of my interest in the topic, i tend to explore every new place top to bottom, and uncover it's mysteries from the get-go.
i remember, one of my first days in montreal, spending almost an hour prying a painted-over panel off the wall to reveal an ancient ironing board within.
it's for these reasons, then, that i was so shocked to have pointed out to me, after over two weeks of living in my new house, a significantly sized hallway and two small rooms i hadn't been aware existed.
crazy.

sometimes you just need a day off from life.
after three weeks of constant activity, it became clear that i wasn't going to finish unpacking by this weekend if i just do it in fits and starts in the evening, after a busy day at work. especially when all my evenings tend to get booked also :|. so i took a "personal" day, and alternated naps, cleaning, unpacking, and walks around my new neighbourhood. and almost no internet!
it was pretty awesome!
late last night, in bed, i added to my "things which are really creepy list", when, after watching a movie about haunted houses and with my roommates both gone until friday, the broken player piano in the dining room under my bedroom began playing.
it was pretty creepy!
it was also kristian, home two days early.
finally, i can't remember which one of you had a thing for outdoor lovin', but this link was brought to my attention, and i thought i'd share: the abcs of outdoor sex.
